Contradictions arose between the presidential Serbian Progressive Party of Aleksandar Vucic and the Socialist Party of Serbia of Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic during the formation of a coalition of the parliamentary majority in the new People's Assembly.

As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports from Belgrade, the representative of the progressives, Prime Minister Anna Brnabic, speaking about the prospects for cooperation with the socialists, said that at the top of this party there are people who want to get seats in the government, as well as in the largest state-owned companies, using For this purpose there are various external pressure options. And Vucic cannot like this.

According to the prime minister, at a meeting with the president, she noted that Vucic was disappointed in people close to him, and that he was quite sensitive to the fact that some high functionaries of the Socialist Party of Serbia supported the recent street pogroms carried out by the pro-Western opposition. At the same time, the Serbian leader provided support to the socialists for a long time, including by lobbying for the participation of party representatives in the government.

To this, Ivica Dacic said that his party is a full-fledged loyal partner of the progressives, and if someone from his party turns to foreign centers of influence to obtain posts, they will not receive their support.

At the same time, the same Brnabic names water polo player Aleksandar Sapić, who made his debut in the People’s Assembly, as a potential participant in the new coalition. The SPAS union headed by him received third place in the last parliamentary elections.

“The question of cooperation between the Serbian Progressive and Serbian Socialist Parties remains open at the moment,” political scientist Dejan Vuk Stankovic commented on the situation to PolitNavigator. “I think now it’s more about some kind of political bargaining.” By emphasizing the mistakes made by the socialists during their joint work, representatives of the Progressive Party are thereby trying to reduce their price, and here, as they say, all means are good. If we talk about reality, then cooperation between these party giants continues to be the most likely option, only with a smaller share of the political participation of Dacic’s party.”
