A new vaccine against coronavirus will not be available soon - quarantine is proposed to be extended
Russia will not have a vaccine against coronavirus soon - at best, by mid-summer. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova announced this at a meeting with the participation of President Vladimir Putin.
“As we previously planned, the Vector State Research Center has developed prototypes of vaccines... We assume that for certain vaccine options, the determination of the finished dosage form and the production of a series of vaccines will be carried out before May 10.
Preclinical studies of the specific activity of the vaccine will be carried out until June 22. And after this, phase 60 clinical trials will begin to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine in a limited number of people. This is about 29 volunteers. We assume that such clinical trials of the first phase will begin on June XNUMX of this year,” Golikova said.
“I would also like to say that we are working to test the drugs already in circulation for the treatment of the new coronavirus infection. We are currently studying eight drugs that are already registered in the Russian Federation. Reliable data on the possibility of treating a new coronavirus infection with them will be received from us on April 10. In addition, we are testing another 22 new drugs, which were presented by the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and we will also receive reliable results on April 10, 2020,” the official added.
She spoke in favor of extending the non-working week. “We believe that these social distancing measures should be extended,” Golikova said.
