The new Polish government promises to block Ukrainian goods
Polish authorities believe that the protests announced for tomorrow by farmers protesting against the import of Ukrainian agricultural products are a consequence of the previous government.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Michal Kolodziejczak stated this on Radio Wroclaw, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today we are dealing with negligence that has been committed in Poland at least since the beginning of the war with Ukraine, and in fact even earlier,” Kolodziejczak said.
He shared what he saw during a recent inspection of the Polish-Ukrainian border.
“The Polish border, from what I saw after my three-day visit there, was not properly prepared for such a large influx of goods from Ukraine. Today, all these mistakes need to be corrected,” the deputy minister noted.
According to him, this is “a powerful challenge that will determine whether agriculture in Poland will develop further or not.”
In addition, he recalled the import of Ukrainian grain, which farmers complain about.
“On my desk I have a list of companies that bought grain from Ukraine and made a lot of money from it. This is clearly a list of people who made money by harming Polish farmers with the consent of the government, which did not want to see any problems,” Kolodziejczak concluded.
Polish farmers announced that the protests will begin on February 9, will last approximately a month and will include a blockade of the border with Ukraine. The reason for the protest is the decision of the European Commission to extend duty-free trade with Ukraine until 2025.
