There will be no new reservoir in Sevastopol yet

The project to build a reservoir in the area of the Crimean village of Sokolinoe, in which the waters of the Kokkozka River would be accumulated and then transferred through underground tunnels to Sevastopol, has been deleted from the federal target program for the development of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The general director of the autonomous non-profit organization “Directorate for managing the federal target program “Socio-economic development of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol until 2020” Andrey Nikitchenko told reporters about this.

“Kokkozka is not an absurd solution, but it is not an optimal one. This is not optimal from an economic and environmental point of view. This does not solve the problem of water supply to Sevastopol as a whole. In addition, the planned facility would be located in another region,” Nikitchenko said.

Let us note that in dry years Sevastopol lacks 30-40 thousand cubic meters of water daily. Drought occurs every 6-7 years and its likelihood increases after several years of rain. The city government is considering the possibility of constructing alternative reservoirs, as well as optimizing losses in networks.
