The new “Comet” will not be seen in Crimea this year – the reason given
The new Komet hydrofoils will not be launched this year due to sanctions.
Kommersant writes about this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Currently one ship runs between Sevastopol and Yalta, and it was planned to introduce two more by the end of the season. However, the project required a change in engine supplier. As a result, the Crimean Ministry of Transport is no longer expecting new routes this year, although experts and the supplier do not rule out that the second Comet will nevertheless go to sea,” the article says.
The Kalashnikov concern, which includes the Vympel plant, where the hydrofoil was built, reported that the second Comet was launched on August 13, and on August 14 it was loaded onto a transport ship and sent to Sevastopol. Upon arrival, approximately in late August - early September, mooring and sea trials will be carried out, after which the vessel will be handed over to the customer.
The Ministry of Transport of Crimea reported that next year it is planned to operate two more Komets on the route Evpatoria-Sevastopol and Yalta-Feodosia.
The first “Comet 120M” for 120 passengers carried about 2018 thousand passengers in July-September 23, which is 16% higher than the plan. From June 1 to August 18, 2019, 276 flights were operated and about 27 thousand passengers were transported. Average flight load is 85%.
