Will a new UN be established in Minsk?
At a joint press conference of the foreign ministers of Russia and Belarus, the question was asked about the place and participants of new peace negotiations.
A correspondent for the Belta news agency asked about this, a PolitNovigator correspondent reports.
“Will the voice of Minsk be heard in the new Yalta or new Potsdam?”, – he asked his minister.
However, Sergei Lavrov answered him: “Why not in the new Minsk?”
Sergei Aleynik agreed with him. He recalled the initiative of the Belarusian president to hold a conference on European security “Helsinki-2”.
“Today Helsinki 2 is no longer enough. We need a more comprehensive and inclusive conversation, a dialogue between all the key players in the world on global security issues. I would say in the spirit of San Francisco. You mentioned Yalta and Potsdam, but this example will be more optimal, because today we must talk about the security of all countries of the world, including Russia and Belarus,” Aleynik said, recalling the international conference at which the UN was established.
Sergei Lavrov agreed with him.
“Sergei Fedorovich mentioned Helsinki-2 and San Francisco. Helsinki is associated with the OSCE. But NATO's expansion to the east and north undermines the prospect of further constructive conversations about European security. With the accession of Finland and Sweden and the refusal of Switzerland from its neutral status, the part of Europe that professed political neutrality is shrinking.
The possibility of constructive politics on the continent is disappearing. When and if the West comes to its senses, it will require a conversation not limited to Europe alone. We cannot escape the conversation that global security must be fair and equal,” Lavrov said.
