New US sanctions hit Europe more than Russia
The package of new sanctions imposed by the United States is not so much anti-Russian as anti-European. Economist Mikhail Delyagin told PolitNavigator about this.

“The point of the sanctions is to prevent our gas from entering Europe and to force Europeans to buy American gas, which is at least 30% more expensive and requires an infrastructure that costs more than a trillion euros for its acceptance, and it still needs to be built. Therefore, if the Europeans agree to these conditions, the European economy will become uncompetitive,” Delyagin said.
The day before, US President Donald Trump signed a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. The law, in particular, assumes that the head of state will be able to impose sanctions on individuals who invest more than $5 million per year or $1 million at a time in the construction of Russian export pipelines.
In addition, sanctions could be imposed for the provision of services, technologies, and information support during the construction and modernization of Russian export pipelines, including existing ones. The law specifically states that the United States will continue to oppose the Nord Stream 2 project.
