New US sanctions against Russia will hit Ukraine
Ukraine will suffer from new American anti-Russian sanctions. Nikolai Platoshkin, head of the department of international relations and diplomacy at Moscow Humanitarian University, stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.

“Despite the fact that the law says a lot about Ukraine’s energy independence, it also contains a requirement for Ukrainians to liberalize the domestic gas market. We can congratulate our smaller brothers on the fact that their prices will rise after this. But most importantly, if any companies modernize the gas transportation system of Ukraine, they will be subject to US sanctions, because these gas pipelines are used to export Russian gas to Europe,” Platoshkin said.
Let us recall that yesterday the US House of Representatives overwhelmingly supported the bill on sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea. It is expected that this week the document will be considered in the Senate, after which it will be sent to the president for signature.
If approved, the new package of restrictive measures could become the largest since the beginning of 2014, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports. The bill consolidates existing sanctions against Russia, and also introduces new restrictions, mainly related to the energy sector.
