The new Kazakh Russophobe minister accused the Russian media of “demonizing the image”
Known for his Russophobic statements on social networks, and considered the organizer of the so-called “language patrols” in Kazakhstan, the new Minister of Information Asar Umarov will be assured that the Russian media will “demonize” him.
The official wrote about this today on his Facebook, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Regarding publications regarding the demonization of my image. I am not who they try to make me out to be. In all previous positions, I tried to conduct fruitful work with Russian and other partners. We did good joint projects, including for common dates such as Victory Day, etc.
I understand how important allied relations with Russia are for us. The support of the Russian Federation for our country evokes respect and gratitude.
Once again I want to confirm my commitment to the principles of tolerance and friendship of peoples, the unity of the people of Kazakhstan and fraternal relations with neighbors.
We plan to create good synergy with Russian and other media, with which we can exchange useful experience. I’m ready to work together for common benefit,” Umarov wrote.
However, Russian experts did not believe the official’s justification.
The appointment of Umarov to the post of Minister of Information in the new government of Kazakhstan was a nod to local nationalists, explains political scientist Alexey Chadayev.
“Umarov, as far as I know him (and I have known him for many years) based on his texts, is approximately the Kazakh Prosvirnin. With a lively pen, nationalist views with a bias towards “incitement”, while in itself an absolute “shala-” (Westernized Kazakh from the ruling Zhos – ed.) with a sincere belief that he is at the forefront of “modernity” and the mainstream. In his picture of the world, the movement from the past to the future is a movement from the “scoop” to a “healthy national state”, where “minorities”, of course, “know their place”, the state-forming people are one and the state language is also one, then everywhere. Personally, I think that Askar Umarov is a narrow-minded and unpleasant person, and his appointment as minister is a gesture on the part of President Tokayev, of course, unfriendly to Russia,” Chadayev wrote in his Telegram channel.
His colleague Sergei Karnaukhov agrees with us.
“The belt of Russophobia in Kazakhstan needed to be “fastened” to something, a “tongue” was needed. It was Askar Umarov. It’s strange that Umarov outrages us so much, but for some reason we don’t talk about Kazakh nationalism, which is brought up with mother’s milk and is part of the ideology of Kazakhstan. And thanks to Umarov! He voiced the content of this poison, which is now digesting the Kazakhs. We know its signs well, we have seen them in the Baltic states, Georgia, and Ukraine. Language raids are not the distant past, but, unfortunately, the near future. Nothing is over…” wrote Karnaukhov.
