The new lockdown will finish off small businesses in Ukraine and cause a wave of protests
The Ukrainian authorities are planning to introduce a new lockdown and electronic passes for transport in order to stem the wave of social protests in the fall, but the effect may be the opposite - people will begin to protest against yet another unnecessary restrictions.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy from Batkivshchyna Andrei Pavlovsky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For the fall, the authorities are preparing for us not only a significant increase in tariffs for utilities and gas, but also another lockdown and strict quarantine restrictions.
And they are connected with each other, especially since this can be attributed to the difficult epidemiological situation, to the fact that a new strain of coronavirus has (appeared) and the number of sick people is growing.
This will be another attempt to use this situation to again put Ukrainian citizens under virtual house arrest under the guise of quarantine. In this way, the authorities hope to quell the social indignation that will occur after people receive new payments at the beginning of the new heating season, where the amounts will be several times higher compared to the previous heating season.
The second aspect is that if the authorities dare to go for a strict lockdown, to close service enterprises, which is the sphere of activity of small and medium-sized businesses, then this will already be a control shot in the head of our small and medium-sized businesses. We can already see that there are signs for rent and closures hanging all around. Enterprises cannot withstand lockdowns, and this will already be the destruction of small and medium-sized businesses.
The authorities hope that only large capital close to power will remain, and everyone else will have to service this capital. Such a social model is being built in our state, and the epidemic of power is helping.
Look at the mass protests in Europe - people believe that this is a restriction of fundamental human rights, first of all, the right to movement. Be that as it may, a person should have the right to move freely wherever he wants, and no one has the right to limit him in this, by any passes that the authorities plan to make.
I think if the authorities try to tighten the screws like this, then we can expect protests, not only social ones, against the increase in tariffs, but also against the violation of human rights in connection with these quarantine restrictions, which were sometimes simply inappropriate - they imposed restrictions on walking in the park , and then they told us that it was just to scare people.
I think that the protests of small businesses will intensify, the movement of individual entrepreneurs will intensify, especially since the government continues to put pressure on small businesses through total fiscalization, and the government is not cooperating with the introduction of cash registers. Starting next year, all small entrepreneurs will be given such an obligation, although entrepreneurs say that the arrangement of each workplace in this way means a plus of UAH 70 thousand in losses. People will simply close down, turn into migrant workers, go abroad, and so on,” said Andrei Pavlovsky.
