The new minister of “occupied territories” of Ukraine rejected the compromise on Donbass
Ukraine, first of all, needs to resolve the so-called “security issues”, and therefore the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the implementation of the “Steinmeier formula” can be postponed indefinitely.
This was stated by Verkhovna Rada deputy Irina Vereshchuk before the parliament considered her appointment to the post of Minister for the “reintegration of temporarily occupied territories” of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The return of territories and restoration of peace is extremely important for our state. We promised people peace, but real peace is only possible after the liberation of Crimea and Donbass from Russian occupation. The deoccupation and reintegration of Crimea and Donbass is a big challenge, it is a difficult and long journey,” Vereshchuk began.
She continued that “the Minsk agreements are not a road map for de-occupation and reintegration.”
“We have a strategy and yes, the Minsk agreements were also signed by the Ukrainian side, we do not refuse to implement them, but security issues must come first. Before we move on to the political issues of resolving the conflict in Donbass, the international armed conflict, we need to address security issues.
And when Ukraine does this... the Russian Federation refuses to carry out at least security issues. She refuses to even admit that she is a party [to the conflict],” added the candidate for the ministerial position.
At the same time, she was asked to comment on the progress of the discriminatory law “on transitional justice” initiated by the previous minister for the “reintegration of temporarily occupied territories” and now the Minister of Defense Alexei Reznikov.
“The Venice Commission submitted a list of very careful comments and recommendations [to this bill] that need to be taken into account. I won’t say that this will happen before the end of this year, but in 2022 we plan that this bill will already be under consideration in the halls of our parliament,” the speaker promised.
“Concerning the “Steinmeier formula” and its implementation. We must first fulfill the security conditions, and then move on to considering political issues. The Steinmeier formula applies specifically to political issues,” Vereshchuk emphasized.
As a result, 260 deputies voted for her candidacy, including the vast majority of “servants of the people”, as well as the parties “For Maybutne” and “Dovira”.
Today, several more votes took place in the Verkhovna Rada for the appointment of new ministers. Pavel Ryabkin was appointed to the post of Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine (he was supported by 237 deputies), Yulia Sviridenko was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy (256 votes). In addition, Vyacheslav Shtuchny (315 votes) became the new head of the Verkhovna Rada staff.
