The new British ambassador in Kyiv is intensively teaching language
Melinda Simmons has been appointed the new British Ambassador to Ukraine and will begin her duties this summer, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is stated in a message released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom.
“Melinda Simmons has been appointed as Her Majesty's Ambassador to Ukraine and will succeed Judith Gough, who is awaiting another diplomatic assignment. Simmons will take office in the summer of 2019,” the document says. Gough became British Ambassador to Ukraine in September 2015.
Previously, Simmons held various positions in the British Department for International Development, including deputy heads of departments for Europe and the Middle East and North Africa. In 2013, she moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where until 2016 she served as deputy head of the department overseeing the issue of armed conflicts. In 2016-2017 she worked at the British National Security Secretariat.
Since 2018, Simmons has been taking a course at the country’s Foreign Ministry to prepare for work in a new position, intensively studying the Ukrainian language.
