The new Russian Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, who will begin his duties in the coming days, spoke about this in an interview with Kommersant.
“We hope that common sense and an understanding of the futility of attempts to put pressure on our country will prevail in Washington. We must not forget that Russia and the United States, which have the largest nuclear potentials, bear a special responsibility for global stability and security. When we act together on the international stage, the world becomes calmer and safer. Bilateral cooperation on the most important issues on the international agenda remains in demand, including the fight against terrorism, countering drug trafficking, organized crime, and the cyber threat.
In general, it would be equally beneficial for our countries to build a model of interaction that would ensure predictability, exclude unpleasant surprises, minimize market fluctuations, and make it possible to take measures in advance to prevent tension. As for the embassy in Washington and Russian foreign agencies in the United States in general, no matter what the conditions of our work are, it is not appropriate for diplomats to be frightened or afraid of anything. We will consistently ensure the implementation of Russia’s foreign policy course and the guidelines of the country’s leadership,” Antonov said.
