The new ambassador to Belarus is against “black cats”
The new Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev, who arrived in Minsk yesterday, believes that there are no problems in relations between the two countries.
He stated this in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper, published today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In my opinion, there are no “black cats” in relations between Moscow and Minsk and there should not be. This is my firm belief. And if we didn’t have time to discuss something and didn’t have time to come to a common decision today, then we’ll definitely do it tomorrow,” Mezentsev said.
The diplomat did not want journalists, “analyzing the system of relations between fraternal peoples, to see more of the negative, to look for disputes, exaggerating their scale, and to talk about disagreement.”
“The potential of the Treaty on the creation of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the twentieth anniversary of which will be celebrated this year, is enormous. It is important to talk about what we should all do to ensure that this potential is fully realized in accordance with the plans of Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko,” the ambassador said.
Mezentsev was appointed ambassador instead of Mikhail Babich, who was recalled on April 30, according to a number of experts, at the personal request of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who was dissatisfied with the diplomat’s too active position in implementing the Union Treaty.
