New twist: Grymchak is charged with beating Tatyana Chornovol at the height of the Maidan
The plot of the case on the detention of Deputy Minister for “Temporarily Occupied Territories” and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine Yuriy Grymchak states that the investigation is being carried out within the framework of the case of the attack on Tatyana Chornovil in 2014.
This was stated by Yuri Grymchak’s lawyer Tatyana Matyash.
“We don’t have any suspicion or anything yet. The plot of the case sounds like this is the Maidan case, the case of Tatyana Chernovol... That’s what they wrote in the protocol,” Matyash said.
According to the lawyer, as the head of the department of special investigations Gorbatyuk explained to Chernovol herself, they allegedly “investigated her case.”
“But it has not been investigated since 2017, there is not a single court decision on this case... Allegedly, this crime was discovered, but if this were so, the Code of Criminal Procedure clearly regulates that there must be a separate report, registration of the case and its transfer to a special body, which authorized to investigate this matter. Fraud is the exclusive jurisdiction of the National Police,” she added.
In turn, the head of the special investigations department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, Sergei Gorbatyuk, said that during the investigation of the criminal proceedings regarding the beating of former Maidan journalist and then people's deputy of the previous convocation Tatyana Chernovol, it became known about a new crime, within the framework of the investigation of which Yuriy Grymchak was already detained .
“In the investigation of the beating of Chernovol, a person appeared who we directly suspect of involvement in the beating. While documenting this crime, it turned out that Grymchak was involved in it,” Gorbatyuk said.
Let us remind you that yesterday, August 14, according to NABU, Deputy Minister Yuriy Grymchak and his assistant were detained. The arrest took place as part of a criminal investigation initiated under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code (fraud). It is noted that these persons, for influencing decision-making by persons authorized to perform state functions, demanded from a representative of a legal entity an unlawful benefit in the total amount of 1,1 million US dollars. The NABU reported that they detained officials in the hot seat while receiving part of the funds in the amount of $480 thousand.
Let us note that the “beating of Tatyana Chernovol” during the Maidan was actively promoted by the then opposition to stir up the temperature of anti-government protests. The opposition accused Yanukovych's people of beating Tatyana Chernovol. Six years later, this myth burst in such an unexpected way.
