“We are just beginning the process of clearing state institutions from the control of the previous regime, and we are trying to make sure that these institutions are independent. I believe that now in Moldova and Ukraine there is a window of opportunity for this. We must start with the key institutions. In our case, this is the prosecutor’s office, the justice sector, the courts,” Sandu noted.

She also wants to create an advisory body in the near future - the Bureau of Advisors to the Prime Minister. “We would like to invite people from Ukraine, from Romania, to learn from the experience of these countries... the experience of colleagues from Kyiv, where they already have experience in creating a special anti-corruption court, agencies that fight big corruption,” said the head of government.

“We would like to have very good relations with Ukraine. There are the same challenges that our countries face, and I believe that we must find joint solutions. There are things we can learn from Kyiv, and Kyiv can learn from us. Transnistria is a big issue on our agenda.

We know that the regime in Tiraspol survived through corruption schemes and smuggling. We hope that the authorities in Kyiv will help us overcome these schemes. In the past, both Chisinau and Ukraine participated in them. There are many other areas of cooperation that we want to start as quickly as possible,” she added.
