Ex-deputy head of the Presidential Secretariat, political scientist Igor Popov said this on air on the Kyiv Channel 5.
In his opinion, instability in Ukraine will continue until the presidential elections, “when the new president makes one of his first visits to Moscow.”
“He will say that we will not give up Crimea, we will not recognize it, and so on, but he will determine some new price for gas, agree that Ukraine will be non-aligned for at least three years, we need some period, because no NATO is in us will not take it in the near future, it will be agreed that when signing an FTA with the European Union, Russian interests will be taken into account, at least a little bit...”, the expert predicts.
“Are you proposing that the next president be a pro-Russian president?” the presenter clarified.
“But he’s not going anywhere! We can’t escape geography, we have one and a half thousand kilometers of border and a third of exports to the Russian Federation... We can try to replace something, but we need to buy time. And all these Western loans, and all the technical agreements - in order to gain time. And in three years, either the donkey will die, or that (Russian - “Navigator”) government will change... In principle, we will return Crimea only when Putin ceases to be the president of Russia,” Igor Popov is convinced.
