New President of Kyrgyzstan: Russia will remain an ally
Russia has been and will remain a strategic partner of Kyrgyzstan.
The winner of the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an interview with Kommersant.
The publication asked whether competition between big powers, in particular the West, Russia and China, is felt in Kyrgyzstan.
“Everyone wants to win us over to their side. But we won't give in. For 70 years, Russia and I lived in the USSR, in the same state. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia was our strategic partner and ally for 30 years. She remains one. Why? Because it helps us more than other countries. With other states - with America, with China - we will be on mutually beneficial terms, we will cooperate on equal terms,” Japarov said.
It should be noted that Japarov was serving a prison term several months ago for the kidnapping of the governor of the Issyk-Kul region, but was released last year during another overthrow of power in Kyrgyzstan.
