New Ukrainian law “On thieves in law”: Avakov gets unlimited opportunities
Lobbied by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, the adoption of the law “On thieves in law” will make it possible to open a criminal case against literally any citizen of Ukraine, since it makes it possible for anyone to assign the status of “friend of a crime boss.” Avakov needs this law to gain unprecedented leverage.
Lawyers and human rights activists spoke about this at a round table in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is the law of Arsen Borisovich Avakov. Through his schlepers he promotes it. He wants to take control of the criminal world and install “his” watchers. He has his own selfish interests there. He is the eternal minister. Under three prime ministers there was a minister and wants to become prime minister, even president.
The law was submitted from the Office of the President, like from the president. There was a department head on the Committee, he was babbling and talking about something, but he didn’t really understand anything. But we understand that he was prepared on the orders of Avakov. We know that. But there, in the documents, his name is not there,” said human rights activist Eduard Bagirov.
“You don’t need to know very much - raise the previous similar bill. He already submitted. We've already defended it once. The authors there were Avakov and Gerashchenko, they were written. One on one, the same bills have been introduced now. New deputies came and said that the previous ones were bad, but we will take their work as an example and will continue to work,” added the head of the Human Rights Committee of the ANAU Anna Kolesnik.
