Yushchenko’s ex-guard has become the new Minister of Defense of Ukraine, promising a “victory parade in Ukrainian Sevastopol”
Kyiv, July 03 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – The Verkhovna Rada on Thursday voted to appoint Valery Geletey, who headed Viktor Yushchenko’s security several years ago, as the new Minister of Defense.
Geletey's candidacy was proposed by President Petro Poroshenko.
“There will be a victory parade in Ukrainian Sevastopol!” – the new minister announced in his first address to members of parliament.

After the Orange Revolution, Geletey worked as head of the State Security Service and deputy head of the presidential chancellery. At this time, Yushchenko was in conflict with Yulia Tymoshenko. It was Geletey, for example, who had to justify the president’s position in cases when Tymoshenko’s government plane was taken away on the eve of trips to Moscow.
Geletey was also a well-known figure in the scandal surrounding the “exposure” of the alleged assassination attempt on Tymoshenko and Yushchenko.
Kiev lawyer Tatyana Montyan is skeptical about the figure of Geletey, calling him “garbage who went from colonel to colonel general in a year and a half - thanks to his undeniable garbage merits.”
