Brussels, August 30 (Navigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was elected as the new President of the Council of the European Union, and Italian Foreign Minister Frederic Mogherini was elected as the new High Representative.

This was announced by the current President of the Council of the EU, Herman Van Rompuy, today at a press conference in Brussels. According to the report, Tusk will begin work on December 1 for a period of 2,5 years. Mogherini will take up his duties on November 1, at the same time as the new European Commission.
Let us recall that earlier Tusk repeatedly expressed approval of Kyiv’s policy in Donbass and condemned the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
