There is one interesting nuance in the story of the SBU accusing Anatoly Shariy of “high treason”. For almost seven years, Shariy has emphasized that he is a Ukrainian blogger, a patriot of Ukraine, of which Crimea is an integral part.
Western Ukrainian political scientist Oleg Khavich, who was forced to leave for Poland after a “attack” by the SBU for organizing a conference on the rights of national minorities in Bukovina, writes about this in his column for PolitNavigator.
...I have always been amazed by people who, having fallen under the pressure of the state machine, do their best to feign devotion to it. When in my youth I read materials about the trials of the late 1930s against prominent Bolsheviks, who in the courtroom and before execution shouted about loyalty to the communist idea and personally to Comrade Stalin, I did not think that I would see something similar in the life around me. However, “never say never.” I mean the popular blogger Anatoly Shariy in the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet.
It is always difficult for me to write about people whom I know personally, especially if the acquaintance is long-standing, and the person has become a celebrity - unlike me. Since the journalistic community in Kyiv is very narrow, it is not surprising that in 2010 Shariy and I ended up in the same editorial office. We are talking about the website “Observer” of Mikhail Brodsky, who then, jumping out of his pants, supported the regime of Viktor Yanukovych. By the way, the editor-in-chief of the publication at that time was Mikhail Podolyak, now one of the “discoursemongers” of the Yermak-Zelensky regime. Remember the famous meeting between Yanukovych and the editors-in-chief in 2011 in Mezhyhirya? There were Shuster, Tkachenko, Guzhva, Kiselyov and... Podolyak, and “Observer” was the only representative of the Internet media on that “walk on the stumps.”
In those days, Anatoly Shariy could hardly be called a “Ukrainian patriot”: he did not know how to speak Ukrainian (by the way, he still hasn’t learned it), and in his head he had the usual mess for a post-Soviet person of hypothetical noble ancestors and “Stalin on them No". The basis of his nature was (and remains) the xenophobia familiar to many Kiev residents towards the “Roguls”, which he called both cultural-ethnic and political Ukrainians. Therefore, it is not surprising that when in 2012 Shariy had a conflict with the “roof” in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which supplied him with materials for “investigations,” his “fight against the Yanukovych regime” had nothing to do with attacks in the same direction from future “ leaders of the Maidan."
But then, under the cover of the Maidan, an armed coup d’etat took place in Ukraine; the Nazi regime formed as a result of it declared some of its fellow citizens “wrong” and began to prepare for their physical destruction - which first led to the departure of Crimea and Sevastopol to Russia, and then to armed uprising in Donbass.
And then Anatoly Shariy, who did a lot to uncover the war crimes of the “Ukrainian knights” in the Donbass, publish information about the “Odessa Khatyn”, as well as the abuses of the Kyiv regime in all spheres, suddenly realized himself as a Ukrainian patriot. In his videos, he constantly emphasized that Crimea is Ukraine, Ukraine needs only one state language - Ukrainian, and in general all his activities are aimed exclusively at the benefit of Ukraine - just some other one that does not exist in reality.
Shariy constantly sued the Ukrainian media, calling him a “pro-Russian blogger” and “Kremlin propagandist”, invited the Nazi Karas and “good guys, ATO veterans” to broadcast on his YouTube channel. And when the “Sharia Party” was created, its leader publicly stated that in this political force there were participants in the punitive operation in Donbass who could “kill for the St. George’s Ribbon.” True, all this only increased the hatred of Anatoly Shariy on the part of “certified patriots” - therefore, the information that the SBU charged the blogger with suspicion of “high treason” was just the icing on the cake.
How can one not recall Gogol’s Taras Bulba with his imperishable “well, son, yours helped you...”. I can understand the people who remained in the territory controlled by Kyiv, and therefore are forced to repeat the mantras of the authorities about the “revolution of humility” and “Russian aggression.” However, why do this, being in comfortable emigration, and even having internationally recognized refugee status, I can’t imagine.
Although I do not have such a status, and one can hardly expect it from Poland, which became one of the main beneficiaries of the coup in Ukraine, however, unlike Shariy, I have been writing obvious truths for many years: Crimea is Russia today, Novorossiya is Russia tomorrow, the Nazi Kiev regime was formed after an armed coup d’etat, and since April 2014 it has been massively killing citizens of the former Ukrainian SSR, not only in the Donbass or Odessa, but throughout the entire controlled territory.
It is easy and pleasant to speak the truth. What's the point of humiliating yourself with lies if Kyiv will still be accused of treason for it?
