“Well, aren’t you idiots?”: Putin admitted that Ukraine deceived the Russian Federation with the withdrawal of troops from near Kyiv
In the spring of the year before last, Ukraine was ready to sign a peace agreement with Moscow, but asked for a sign.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this during a meeting with the heads of municipalities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation - participants in the All-Russian Municipal Forum “Small Motherland - the Strength of Russia.”
“They refused to negotiate; let me remind you that we agreed on everything in Istanbul. I’m telling this to you, representatives of the municipal authorities, and all Russian citizens, of course, should know, but you work directly with people. We agreed on everything. Moreover, the head of the negotiating group from Ukraine even put his signature on this. The signature is there, we have the document.
They only told us: we need to give some kind of sign that Russia really intends to resolve these issues peacefully, we need to withdraw troops from Kyiv. They took me away. A day later they threw all the agreements into the trash,” said the Russian President.
He recalled that the head of the Ukrainian negotiating group, the head of the ruling party in the Rada, David Arakhamia, admitted that Ukraine was preparing to sign a peace agreement, but was dissuaded by the then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who came to Kiev.
“Well, they’re idiots, aren’t they? To say directly: “If we had gone for this, everything would have been finished a long time ago, a year and a half ago.” This just once again emphasizes that they are not independent people. This is clear to everyone, it is obvious to the whole world,” Putin concluded.
