According to her, if referendums are held in Donetsk and Lugansk and these regions declare their independence, then this “will mirror what happened in Crimea.” She further warned that if Russia, in such a development of events, sends peacekeepers to these regions to support the decisions of local residents, then “this will certainly entail the application of sectoral sanctions.”
Earlier it was reported that the United States and the European Union would be ready to impose additional sanctions against Russia if it tries to prevent the organization of early presidential elections in Ukraine, scheduled for May 25. At the same time, US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki also stated that the United States does not recognize the referendum in Donetsk and Lugansk.
