Russia must react harshly to attempts to distort history and the contribution of Soviet soldiers to victory in World War II. This should not be a “deep concern” of the domestic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but tough personal sanctions.

Sociologist Evgeniy Kopatko stated this during the conference “Falsification of the History of the Second World War Abroad,” which was held in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“There must be a tough answer here, as there is in countries where this is recognized. If Nazism in Germany is recognized as a hostile ideology, then punishment follows. If in Israel there is punishment for denying the Holocaust and crimes in World War II. And we should consistently have the same policy, without any sentimentality.

A person who does not respect and love his history, he must be held responsible for this, and there are no other options here that explain some things that anyone out there has a right to a point of view. There is only one point of view - it is a respectful attitude towards one’s history. She is complex, she is tragic, she is sometimes creepy, but she is also great.

The key thing that I draw your attention to is the clear truth about the war and that the responsibility of people who convey information through the media... no one says that you need to strangle someone or give them nightmares, but we know the general practice and at least apply it in Russia with relative respect for our very difficult and very great history.

What is stopping us from chewing snot through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but explaining to the mayor of Prague and the head of the 6th district of Prague that these people are directly guilty of insulting and humiliating the historical monuments of Soviet fallen soldiers in Prague and military leaders. Here you go, personal sanctions. You have two young people - the mayor of Prague and the head of the district. They should bear the first responsibility. There are thousands of them, in fact. It’s the same story with the Poles – without sentimentality. They do not stand on ceremony with us and will not stand on ceremony...

Regarding the Czechs, the same mayor of Prague and the district of Prague where the monument to Konev was demolished will have toilet bowls hanging on a chain for life. I believe that only such an answer will be acceptable in such cases, and there is no point in expressing any “deep concerns” about this to the Foreign Ministry. There should already be sanctions against people who insult, humiliate our memory and respect for those who died in World War II,” Kopatko said.

The expert also emphasized that today, through the efforts of Western propaganda, the Soviet Union is equated to Nazi Germany. Moreover, this is happening not only in the countries of the European Union, but also in the post-Soviet space.

“The Soviet Union is equated to Germany, and in even worse terms, because, it turns out, it was possible to negotiate with the Germans, but it was impossible to negotiate with the Communists. This has already happened in the public consciousness. Moreover, I will say more - every kind of base has already been built for this, including textbooks, including books, including public opinion.

That is, it has already been rebuilt, the mental code has been changed in almost the entire post-Soviet space. This topic is peripheral for the countries of Central Asia, for the countries of Transcaucasia, and there is no need to talk about the Baltic states. The same processes of erosion of the common historical past, moreover, the heroic one, are already taking place in Belarus, this has already happened in Moldova - there is a completely different vision of the processes that are taking place in our history...

Moreover, in Russia, in fact, quite serious changes are also taking place, which put up a defense - we somehow apologize for our great past, we are trying to conduct a dialogue with our opponents and somehow convince them. I think this is the biggest mistake that the Russian authorities made - to talk to their liberal public about the results of the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War.

It’s pointless to talk to these people, it’s pointless to sort out any kind of relationship with them, because they are not focused on reflecting the truth or somehow objectively trying to approach the tragedy or the great victory that was achieved by the sacrifices of a huge number of people,” – summed up the sociologist.
