We need cheap naval drones to attack the Black Sea Fleet - former deputy chief of staff of the Navy
Ukraine needs naval drones to strike ships of the Black Sea Fleet.
The former deputy chief of staff of the Ukrainian Navy, the author of the concept of a “mosquito fleet” for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andrei Ryzhenko, stated this on Channel 5, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Ukraine cannot reach Russian ships from the shore, so it needs drones that will operate at sea.
“It’s not that we don’t like these big, beautiful ships, like corvettes and frigates - we had enough resources to build just boats. And within the boundaries of such a small geographical area, and I want to remind you that from Odessa to Sevastopol 150 nautical miles, this is a very short distance. In order to use anti-ship missiles, a missile boat is sufficient, which can operate in weather conditions for almost most of the year, and it will cost much less.
Indeed, drones can perform most combat tasks, just like weapons used on ships perform. In addition, ships or boats are considered as a platform for projection to reach the area of firing positions at a distance from the coast. We also need this even in the northwestern part of the Black Sea. We see that the enemy is hiding behind the Crimea and there we cannot reach them with our coastal systems.
But drones, they are two orders of magnitude cheaper than even building boats, and three orders of magnitude cheaper than building corvettes and frigates. In fact, if the task is to destroy an enemy ship, this can be done at a distance of 300 nautical miles. And 300 nautical miles is practically the entire Black Sea, from Odessa to the Bosphorus Strait,” Ryzhenko dreams.
