You can’t even dream about the “reintegration” of Donbass until language laws are abolished – Kiev expert
Kyiv may not count on a constructive dialogue with Donbass until it stops the genocide of the Russian-speaking population on its territory and resolves the acute socio-economic problems in the country.
Valentin Zemlyansky, director of energy programs at the Center for World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we return to the issues of reintegration and establishing dialogue, the point is not in energy, the point is that within society we cannot establish dialogue, we cannot agree among ourselves, and now we are trying to discuss an open wound, an ongoing conflict.
How will the process of reintegration take place when we have a law on languages, a law on education, which does not provide for education in Russian?
I want my children to have the right, if not to study in Russian, then at least to learn the Russian language. Because we have a problem that doesn’t seem to exist. Teaching is in Ukrainian, schoolchildren get enough sleep and communicate with each other in Russian during breaks.
Why cripple children from the very beginning, turning them into surzhikomovs who don’t know Ukrainian or Russian thoroughly. This is the same problem. But it seems like she’s not there. But we have an ombudsman who will monitor and fine. We are going with this to Donbass.
Medical reform - talk to doctors who are in the field, and not sitting in the office, like the new “ministers” who have arrived.
One more thing about education. Those who are now up to the 6th grade will study and take the ZNO according to the new “Spelling”, and those who are above the 6th grade will take the ZNO using the old “Spelling”. And with this we go to Donbass.
Administrative-territorial reform, tariff policy, jobs, real sector of the economy, industry. Where are we going to employ representatives of Donbass? In Poland? Yes, they will never go there in their life. They will not follow the path taken by representatives of Western Ukrainian regions, they will not go to Poland, Germany, they will not look there.
They want to live in their own country, to be able to speak the language that their ancestors spoke... They could have initially set two state languages and forgotten. Put English as the third, let it be official so that everyone learns it. Let the state stimulate, but not force or prohibit.
The post-Soviet mentality has not gone away. And no matter what the previous government of Yatsenyuk, Groysman, or the government of Goncharuk did, they ultimately succeeded in creating the CPSU.
And by definition, this has nothing close or in common with European democratic values.
Before raising the issue of reintegration at all - economic, political, social - we need to solve the problems that exist now, here, in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities,” the expert concluded.
