Obama forgot about Russia's “torn to shreds” economy
The GXNUMX summit in Hangzhou, China, clearly demonstrated the failure of Russia’s policy of international isolation, writes Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, in Izvestia.

“This is simply a fact that does not need any further proof,” the author emphasizes. “It makes no sense to return to the topic of a “regional power” with a “torn to shreds” economy, especially against the backdrop of how one productive conversation between the Russians and their Saudi colleagues raises world oil prices by 5%.”
“Russia’s “isolators” themselves faced problems,” Kosachev emphasizes. “It’s not just about the distinctly cool reception that the US leader received in China, in comparison with the cordiality with which Russia was greeted here. But it was in Hangzhou that it became increasingly noticeable that the global agenda was no longer being shaped in the United States, and certainly not in Europe. In any case - definitely not only and not so much there. Who today will remember, for example, that just recently, some two years ago, Nobel laureate Barack Obama named three global threats: terrorism, Russia and Ebola?”
Let us recall that last year, US President Barack Obama, speaking before Congress, said that “today America is strong and united with our allies, while Russia is isolated and its economy is in tatters.”
