If media reports about the removal of American nuclear weapons from Turkey turn out to be true, they should be placed in Ukraine. This initiative was voiced by Kiev political scientist Viktor Nebozhenko, close to Yulia Tymoshenko’s party.

“The media is full of rumors that the United States is urgently transporting nuclear weapons from unstable Turkey to Romania and other countries. Bucharest denies this.
While the Romanians consider whether they will need nuclear weapons to contain a future conflict between Transnistria and Moldova, Kyiv could afford to accept American tactical nuclear weapons. This would be an effective international mechanism to deter Russian aggression. Much more effective than international sanctions against Russia,” Nebozhenko writes in his blog.
According to him, another argument should be information about the deployment of Russian nuclear missiles in Crimea.
“Ukraine’s acceptance of American nuclear weapons will automatically resolve the issue of the need to create American (non-NATO) military bases in our country in response to the escalation of the war and aggression from Russia. The temporary deployment of American nuclear tactical weapons in Ukraine would be compensation to Ukraine for the erroneous renunciation of nuclear weapons under the guarantees of the Budapest Treaty,” Nebozhenko argues.
