The combined forces of Moldova and Ukraine must block the PMR - Ponomarev
The issue of Transnistria can be resolved militarily, and for this, Ukraine and Moldova must begin a blockade of the Russian military stationed there in order to replace them with OSCE peacekeepers.
Ex-deputy of the Russian State Duma Ilya Ponomarev, who fled to Ukraine after a criminal case opened in the Russian Federation for embezzlement on an especially large scale, stated this on air on the Politeka Online TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a case where there may be a military way to solve this problem. Transnistria is an absolutely sandwiched piece of land between Moldova and Ukraine, where there is not such a large number of Russian military personnel. And a joint operation to blockade this territory - I am not calling for military action there, God forbid... but a blockade of this territory so that there is a rotation of peacekeepers.
Peacekeepers are certainly needed there, otherwise military confrontation may resume again, but the question is how to replace the Russian peacekeepers. And these could well be some kind of OSCE forces, European, Swedish, for example. Precisely because there is not such a large amount of strength needed.
But for this to happen, it is necessary that the Kremlin be ready to withdraw its military units. And this can only be done in cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine,” Ponomarev said.
