“The new leadership of Belarus will unite with the Russian Federation” - Kedmi
Deeper integration of Belarus into the Union State will occur after the announced changes to the Constitution of the republic and the election of a new president of the country.
The former head of the Israeli intelligence service Nativ, Yakov Kedmi, stated this on the Israeli television channel Iton-TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There will be a process of rapprochement and establishment of relations with Russia. It is not going the way someone wanted: tomorrow they will sign an agreement and then everything will be no. Quietly, calmly, stage by stage. Now who has come to Belarus? Shoigu has arrived. That is, the first thing that worries Russia is military security.
Secondly, the processes of adopting a new Constitution will begin in Belarus, just as in Russia there will be a new Constitution, they will adopt it, and elections will be held under the new Constitution. And the state that will be established according to the new Constitution, after new elections, with the leadership that will be chosen, and it will be a little, or maybe a lot, different from the current one, and new agreements will be concluded between Russia and Belarus within the framework of the Union State. This is the direction it is going. What stages there will be and what will happen to whom is another question,” Kedmi said.
Previously, Andrey Suzdaltsev, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Politics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics suggested that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will delay the implementation of constitutional reform and use it to transfer power to his son.
State Duma deputy Evgeny Fedorov noted, that at a recent multi-hour meeting of the presidents of Russia and Belarus in Sochi, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko discussed the process of unification of states, which is why it was closed.
