“I promise complete security” - Lukashenko lures the leaders of the EAEU countries to Minsk
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko persuades the heads of state of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to gather in Minsk on May 19.
Lukashenko said today that he wants to see them as his guests during a video conference with Moldovan President Igor Dodon, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the EAEU, today I spoke with the President of Kazakhstan Tokayev. They are now consulting with the President of Russia. What can I tell you, and I told him: I am your servant, as you say, so it will be. I'm organizing an event. I am ready to receive you all on May 19th. I promise complete safety. I am sure that you will be happy to be here and leave Minsk in a good mood, if, of course, the situation allows you to do so,” said the Belarusian president.
According to him, Tokayev and Dodon (Moldova has observer status in the EAEU) are ready to fly, but the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin is in question.
“Since, as we see from the media, statements by Putin himself, the situation is not very good. But from the 12th, I’m sure they will also ease this quarantine. Therefore, by May 19, if you wish to visit Minsk, I will receive you with great pleasure, and we will be ready to host this event,” Lukashenko promises.
He criticized the videoconference format in which all world leaders have recently been working.
“I don’t take the video conference format very well, because, you know, people are already starting to laugh at us. If we want to seriously discuss issues, we can gather here and discuss face to face. Let us not drag a huge crowd of officials along with us, let there be one or two cameras, our personal cameramen, photographers who can capture this event, but we would meet and talk here,” the President of Belarus dreams.
