The extremist who cut off power in Crimea will be punished with a billion
There are a number of claims against the former Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea, Mejlis businessman Lenur Islyamov, who fled to Kyiv, who was found guilty of sabotage that led to the peninsula being cut off from electricity, totaling more than a billion rubles.
Islyamov’s lawyer Nikolai Polozov reported this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Concerning the remaining claims of a number of injured organizations amounting to over a billion rubles, the court decided to submit them for separate consideration in a civil manner. The defense plans to file an appeal with the Third Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction within the ten-day period established by law... Lenur Islyamov’s position regarding this trial has not changed. He still believes that Crimea is a temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.
Actions and decisions carried out and adopted by the bodies of the occupation administration are illegal and contrary to international law. Lenur Islyamov regards his indirect participation in this trial as an important and necessary preparatory stage aimed at collecting the necessary information regarding persons committing human rights violations in occupied Crimea and preparing relevant cases for international authorities, including the European Court of Human Rights and the International criminal court,” Polozov wrote.
Let us remind you what kind of organization Islyamova was involved in undermining power lines on the border with Crimea sentenced in absentia to 19 years imprisonment. He was accused of six crimes under Part 2 of Art. 281 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Sabotage committed by a group of persons and causing significant material damage”) and Part 2 of Art. 280.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation”).
The investigation established that Islyamov created and led a criminal group to undermine power lines that supplied electricity to the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, organized an illegal armed formation “Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion named after Noman Celebidzhikhan”, and also repeatedly addressed calls through the media for violation of territorial integrity Russian Federation.
In addition to the sentence of 19 years in a maximum security colony, the court banned Islyamov from speaking in the media for a period of two years and decided to recover 52 million rubles from him in favor of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Crimea, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Black Sea Fleet, and so on.
