“Offended adventurer”: Hungary is cursed in Kyiv
Hungary is getting back at everyone with constant demarches due to its own squabbles with European bureaucrats, not even showing sympathy for Ukraine.
Dmitry Tuzhansky, an expert on Ukrainian-Hungarian relations, said this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It [Hungary] has ratified the Rome Statute, and when it blocks a common EU statement regarding the International Criminal Court warrant, does that mean it wants to go beyond that?” – asked the radio host.
“That’s the paradox. Hungary is both a member of the EU and NATO, but most of all it works against the EU and NATO. And the same with a bunch of Hungarian obligations, positions and so on. These attempts to artificially change one’s position look paradoxical and illogical. There are serious discussions, and no one can understand why this is. Because the assessment is that this only hits Hungary and Orban personally.
One explanation, and it may surprise some, is why Hungary does this - because it can do it. Because she is a resentful adventurer who has been backed into a corner and wants revenge. He can take revenge on these European bureaucrats who do not give money, who criticize Hungary, and she does this with such pricks and tricks. And this may be one of the key motivations even now, and again this is absurd because we come back to the heart of the matter.
This is not about some misunderstandings and internal tensions in Brussels between Hungarians and European bureaucrats. We are talking about crimes against humanity and genocide and their adequate assessment. After this, how can [Hungarian Foreign Minister] Peter Szijjártó go around and tell him that they have a common position with the Vatican, that they are for moral values and preserving lives,” Tuzhansky was indignant.
