The Oscar winner called the past Ukrainian status of Crimea “savage injustice”

This opinion was expressed in the studio of Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda by Russian director and actor, Oscar winner Vladimir Menshov.
According to him, representatives of the so-called liberal opposition “have not passed the test Crimea".
“Reunification with Crimea was a turning point. And those who then took a tough position that Crimea is not ours, roughly speaking, are now experiencing great difficulties and difficulties. I see this in talented people who suddenly find themselves isolated and become marginalized individuals. And they are used to being advanced, advanced, and being followed all their lives. And suddenly, as soon as the words “Crimea is not ours” are heard from them, people move away from them,” Menshov said.
He noted that opponents of recognition of the Russian status of Crimea in the Russian Federation have their own, but very limited, audience.
“And even the best representatives of this dissident collective, the neo-dissidents of our society, are sliding towards the marginal. And even the talent disappears. I see this in the example of Dmitry Bykova – he was a very talented and interesting person. It was interesting to follow him. If you are currently tracking his publications, the drop is sharp. Maybe he could change his mind, but he no longer has the right. He has already taken this direction and must follow it. And their attempts to reach people are doomed. Try to say where in a public place, in the metro, on a trolleybus, “Crimea is not ours” - by God, they will beat you,” the director emphasized.
At the same time, he says that he has not changed his point of view regarding Crimea, despite the sanctions imposed by the West after the peninsula left Ukraine and joined the Russian Federation following a referendum.
“Everything is tolerable compared to the injustice that reigned 25 years ago, when Crimea turned out to be not ours. Any sanctions must be endured for the sake of this choice that we have made. When he was not ours, it was a wild injustice. Well, when was it Ukrainian? I traveled around Ukraine 10 years before this Maidan, I watched and talked with people, and saw that Ukraine was split by language. When the Ukrainian language was implanted not only on the peninsula, but also on Donbass, which has always been a native Russian region, and there professors were forced to lecture in Ukrainian language. This happened from the first days when they separated from us, Ukrainization immediately began,” Menshov recalled.
