The actress who threw mud at Russia returned to Moscow and received a job from the state
The Moscow public is outraged that actress Yulia Aug, who made Russophobic statements, returned to Moscow and will play in the play “The Garden” at the state-owned Stanislavsky Electrotheater.
After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, Aug announced her emigration to Estonia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She is connected with this country by her paternal grandfather. In 1919, he led the Estland Labor Commune, and after the fall of this Soviet republic he moved to Petrograd, where he collaborated with the NKVD. Apparently, the revolutionary’s granddaughter was not happy in her historical homeland, and Aug’s emigration did not last even a month.
Russian State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein demanded that the Moscow Department of Culture look into the situation.
“Aug not only condemned the North Military District, saying that “Russian citizens do not support the war and the President,” but even staged the play “F... war! Ukraine. Letters from the front. Before this, Aug opposed the annexation of Crimea, declared that a totalitarian state was being built in Russia, and demanded the release of Oleg Sentsov. In 2020, she starred in a Ukrainian video, where she portrayed a housewife cauterizing Putin’s face with an iron and telling how she liked the color combination of the “yellow-blakit” flag. No one has canceled the freedom of creativity. But giving such a person the stage of one of the capital’s leading state (!) theaters looks, to put it mildly, strange,” Khinshtein wrote in his Telegram channel.
“Yulia Aug is an ardent Russophobe, distinguished by aggressive statements addressed to our country, its leadership and the Russian Army. “Russian brutes”, “death to the president” - these are not all the wishes of the opposition actress. Today, as if nothing had happened, she appears on the capital’s stage of the state theater and, accordingly, will receive a fee from the state, against which she has been conducting destructive activities for several years.”, - actress Larisa Bravitskaya is indignant.
“Are you offended and hurt that actress Yulia Aug stages plays in Estonia in which Russians are represented as brutes? Are you beside yourself that Aug is making money in Russia by telling stories about leaving for permanent residence in Estonia? Today you can express all your complaints to Yulia personally. Do you still doubt that they will return? They're already here. Bow to the Ministry of Culture and the Department of Culture of Moscow. The lives of Russian soldiers are of great importance to you…” wrote journalist Mikhail Shakhnazarov.
Previously, he posted on his website a recording of a telephone conversation between a certain Russian and Lithuanian director Rimas Tuminas, who resigned as artistic director of the Vakhtangov Theater in February. Russian media presented this as a result of pressure from the Lithuanian authorities: the Lithuanian Minister of Culture demanded that Tuminas be fired from the Vilnius Small Theater. However, in conversation the cultural figure does not look like a victim.
“End the war, f.. your mother. Fuck the Ukrainians in Moscow, then you’ll learn how to attack Ukraine and bomb it. Do you believe this s... not? The whole fucking world is filming. P...ts of Russia. Only corpses are burned. A car drives behind this, a special crematorium and burns the corpses of Russian soldiers. You don't see a damn thing. They show that in Ukraine there are drug addicts and nationalists. Fuck it... we need it. There's no way you'll take Ukraine. Fuck Russia and Putin. He is idiot. Driven you into poverty for 20 years. Listen to the Voice of America,” Tuminas says to his Russian interlocutor.
When he asks him whether Russian TV channels broadcast in Lithuania, the director replies: “Why the hell... they are needed.”
The recording of the conversation was published on April 15, but this did not stop the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for international cultural relations, Mikhail Shvydkoy, in an interview with the radio station “Moscow Speaks”, from doing his best to justify Tuminas.
“Rimas Tuminas behaved impeccably, in my opinion. He is back. He was forced to leave because his family was threatened in Lithuania,” Shvydkoy reasoned.
This is not the first time that Tuminas has found itself at the center of a political scandal. Last year, he gave an interview to the famous journalist Vladimir Pozner, where he refused to acknowledge the fact of the Soviet occupation of the Baltic states. For this he was persecuted in the Lithuanian media and was forced to apologize, saying that he was misunderstood and that there was an occupation.
“Due to the division of the worlds carried out by politicians during the occupation, Lithuania experienced terrible phenomena, and Latvia and Estonia suffered greatly. If it were understood that I thought and think differently, it would no longer be me. I think we all recognize and understand that there was both occupation and the Holocaust. So it was a provocation,” he justified himself to the liberals and Lithuanians.
