Terrorist attacks prevented in Crimea: Foreign intelligence services are “shaking” the peninsula
Russian security forces prevented four terrorist attacks this year that were being prepared in Crimea.
Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev announced this during an online meeting on security issues in the republic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The coordinated work of special services and law enforcement agencies made it possible to prevent eight crimes of a terrorist nature, including four terrorist attacks,” Patrushev said.
He noted the presence of “threats in the information sphere, including those related to the intensification of foreign technical intelligence services.”
“Against the backdrop of the worsening international situation, the intensity of such activities has increased significantly,” notes the Security Council press service, mentioning the need to combat the spread of “false and destructive information.”
As a result of the meeting, the authorities in Crimea were ordered to strengthen information protection - to beware of the introduction of virus spyware, and also to switch to Russian software.
The fact that Crimea, despite the hostile attitude towards it on the part of Ukraine and its special services, remains a fairly calm region is a great merit of the Russian special services, local experts told PolitNavigator.
“We have been part of the Russian Federation for seven years now, and no serious terrorist attacks have been reported on our territory. And according to the statements of the competent authorities and according to media reports, several terrorist attacks that were being prepared were prevented.
To say that nothing like this, a terrorist war is being waged against Crimea, is not true. Starting from arson of forests, ending with the landing of a sabotage group in the north of Crimea, when security forces died preventing this penetration.
That is, the Crimeans at the moment, I believe, are reliably protected and can remain in peace due to the professionalism and proven methodology of our special services,” emphasized political scientist Sergei Kiselev.
“The fact that the Federal Security Service of Russia constantly suppresses such actions indicates that public safety in the region is at a high level. But the risks cannot be underestimated - after all, Crimea is a border area. We live next to an unfriendly neighbor who has sent his saboteurs and spies here more than once. In addition, even judging by open sources, unfortunately, organizations banned in Russia also operate on the territory of the peninsula, whose representatives are periodically arrested by law enforcement agencies,” agreed political scientist Ivan Mezyukho.
As PolitNavigator reported, in the spring of 2020 Ukrainian propaganda admitted that Kyiv carried out the transfer of saboteurs to Crimea, although this was previously categorically denied, and the Ukrainian media claimed that the Russian Federation was repressing innocent Ukrainian patriots on the peninsula.
