Bummer in Uzhgorod: the local airport is not ready to accept flights from the EU
Uzhgorod Airport is not ready to receive or send civil flights to the territory of the European Union. The airport does not have the appropriate permits to begin operations.
The head of the Transcarpathian regional administration, Viktor Mykyta, announced this on his Facebook page.
“I am forced to correct the information disseminated by certain functionaries regarding the operation of the Uzhgorod international airport: today the airport is not ready to receive or send civil flights to the territory of the European Union,” Mykyta wrote.
According to the official, the Uzhgorod airport does not have the appropriate permits to start operating, the skies over Ukraine are closed, as well as all the country’s airports are closed, there are no signed documents with the EU on the possibility of launching regular flights to the territory of the European Union. In addition, the official complained about the unavailability of the light signal system, runway and other elements of the airport infrastructure, which do not allow regular flights.
“Yes, we are working to bring the airport to the requirements and certification. To carry out a set of measures, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Ukraerorukh, SBU, State Emergency Service, the best specialists in the field of private passenger and cargo aviation were involved for consulting and optimizing the operation of the airport and others. But we are talking about a process - long-term and systemic. Therefore, now statements about the resumption of airport operations are nothing more than desires and intentions,” Mykyta said.
Let us remind you that earlier in the Ukrainian media there was information that the airport in Uzhgorod would allegedly be able to start operating in the near future.
The head of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, Vladimir Chubirko, reported that deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council significantly increased funding for the Uzhgorod airport.
“The authorized capital has been increased by UAH 26 million in order to carry out the necessary procedures, obtain permits, construct the necessary buildings and finally start earning money, and not counting losses. This is an important airport for Ukraine. The former disadvantage - the runway, which begins abroad - has become its advantage. We need to use this,” he wrote.
