Exchange of prisoners: Russia will return the Sapphire ship to Ukraine via Turkey
Ukraine and Russia conducted the “first full exchange of prisoners of war,” Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk said.
According to her, 10 Russian military personnel were exchanged for 10 Ukrainian ones.
“Also, today we sent 11 civilian Russian sailors to the Russians, whom we rescued from a sunken ship near Odessa. As a result of this exchange, 19 Ukrainian civilian sailors are returning home from the rescue ship "Sapphire", who were captured by the invaders while trying to take our military from Zmeiny Island.
According to the terms of the exchange, the rescue ship itself will also be returned to Ukraine and will be sent to a port in Turkey,” Vereshchuk said.
