Impoverished Ukrainians flee supermarkets to cheap markets
Ukrainian retail chains are losing customers - the poorer population increasingly prefers to shop at cheap markets.
Alexey Doroshenko, General Director of the Ukrainian Association of Retail Chain Suppliers, spoke about this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Over the past few years, we have increasingly favored the market. According to our data, in recent years we have “rolled back” by 10-15% in favor of the market. If back in 2014 the Antimonopoly Committee said that the majority of purchases are made in stores and retail chains, then since 2014 this figure has fallen from 55% to 40%.
That is, no more than 40% of all retail purchases go through stores. The price varies across different sales channels. The price on the market is 10-20% lower,” said a market expert.
