Petro Poroshenko commented on the fights and scandals in the Verkhovna Rada and rallies near parliament organized by radicals and other jingoists over the laws on Donbass.
“I just can’t wrap my head around what we saw yesterday and today in the Verkhovna Rada. Former partners in the democratic coalition, people who call themselves patriots and even Ukrainian nationalists, disrupted the votes. And for what? For the law to recognize Russia as an aggressor and its troops as occupiers! As soon as they hear the call “who does not jump,” they jump higher than everyone else. And when it comes to voting for obvious Ukrainian interests, it’s as if damage has been done. And some even have blouses peeking out from under their embroidered shirts, and kokoshniks sticking out from their heads,” Poroshenko said.
Poroshenko also noted that his legislative initiatives correspond to the “real state of affairs.”
“The territories are legally declared to be temporarily occupied by Russian occupation forces. Ukraine classifies Russia as an aggressor country. And we reserve for ourselves the right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations. This further strengthens the legal basis for the use of the Armed Forces and expands their capabilities in the region. This strengthens the arguments in favor of providing Ukraine with defensive weapons,” Poroshenko explained.
