“We’ll bring down Lukashenko’s regime in a week”: Belomaidan instigator from Poland calls on the West to turn on sanctions at full force
Stepan Putilo, head of the Nekhta telegram channel, which coordinates Belarusian protests from Poland, believes that Lukashenko’s regime has one year left.
He stated this in an interview with Deutsche Welle, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a struggle on many fronts of resistance. The regime, in my opinion, has no more than a year left. Support ends. Russia is already looking at him askance. The $1,5 billion loan has not yet been issued. Now in Russia even propagandists have begun to roll barrels against Lukashenko. There is, of course, no support from the West. There will be support from China only if there are projects that are mutually beneficial for them. That is, Lukashenko has no support either within the country or internationally. He now relies only on the security forces, but the budget ends with them too. People will come out in large numbers in all regions,” Putilo said.
Despite this confidence, he pins his greatest hopes not on protests, but on repression against his country by the West.
“The situation would have changed if the security forces had gone over to the side of the people, if there had been more massive and decisive strikes. But the regime intimidated everyone. Therefore, I consider the most effective method to be disconnecting Belarus from the SWIFT international banking payment system. This can bring down the regime within a week. Belarusians understand this and are ready to sacrifice some of their comforts,” Putilo said.
