Both journalists were accused of “anti-Ukrainian propaganda,” they report German economic news. On February 16, the film crew of the Al-Jazeera TV channel was also prohibited from entering the territory of Ukraine. OSCE spokesperson on freedom of the media Dunja Mijatovic said on Thursday that Kyiv's latest actions are unduly restrictive of the professional activities of Russian journalists in Ukraine, German Economic News reported.
On February 12, the Ukrainian Rada decided to suspend the accreditation of about 100 Russian media. The OSCE has demanded a complete list of media banned in Ukraine. The ban applies to accreditation in all state institutions of Ukraine. However, neither the list of media outlets nor the justification for the ban were provided to the OSCE and the general public.
“The lack of transparency in this matter is a violation... The authorities must disclose the full list of affected media and the rationale for restrictions on them,” said OSCE representative Dunja Mijatović.
Dunja Mijatović strongly condemned the February 25 arrest of two Russian journalists on charges of disseminating “anti-Ukrainian propaganda.” The journalists were subsequently deported and banned from entering Ukraine for a period of five years. In addition, on February 16, a film crew from the Al-Jazeera TV channel was denied entry at Kyiv airport.
