The crisis in Ukraine is becoming one of the main topics on the agenda of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (held in Baku from June 28 to July 2), dedicated to the fortieth anniversary of the Helsinki Agreement. It is no coincidence that at the opening of the session, the chairman of this convocation of the assembly, Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro Ranko Krivokapic, focused his attention on it, and the head of the Russian delegation, Speaker of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin devoted his entire speech to this topic, calling on parliamentarians to make informed decisions.

The Ukrainian delegation tried to lobby for an amendment to the draft resolution of the political affairs committee, supported by the United States, Georgia and the Netherlands, in which it accused Russia of violating the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as interfering in the internal affairs of Ukraine. However, as a result of the discussion, OSCE members decided to reject it, as they considered it not to correspond to reality.

Member of the Russian delegation to the OSCE, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Vasily Likhachev believes that if today the OSCE supports Sergei Naryshkin’s proposal to create a contact group to resolve the political crisis in Ukraine, then this will be a victory for the Russian delegation.
