OSCE asks for support from the CSTO in Donbass

The countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, are ready to provide OSCE specialists to work as part of an observation mission in eastern Ukraine.

This was stated by CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, speaking at an extended meeting of the organization’s permanent council, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports, adding that during the meeting, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier invited the CSTO member states to take part in the organization’s monitoring mission in eastern Ukraine, since the tasks The OSCE is expanding in the region.

“We would like to continue to contribute to maintaining the ceasefire agreement, and this requires more monitoring mission staff to monitor the contact line. In addition, we have control functions over the withdrawal of heavy weapons,” Zannier explained.

In turn, the CSTO Secretary General noted that all members of the organization can take part in the mission.

“This will increase the objectivity of assessments,” Bordyuzha responded to the request. “We welcome such a proposal and will provide assistance so that such people are selected in our states.”

In addition, Lamberto Zannier emphasized that he was very concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and called for the creation of an international coalition to counter terrorism.
