A social activist suggests Menyailo take responsibility for the tragedy during the construction of a cadet school
Sevastopol, August 20 (Navigator, Olga Nikolaeva) – Acting Governor of Sevastopol Sergei Menyailo must take responsibility for corruption during the construction of the presidential cadet school, the collapse of the roof of which on August 18 led to the death of people.
Chairman of the Council of the Russian community “Sobol” Vladimir Tyunin announced this at a press conference on Wednesday.
“The governor is responsible for everything that happens in the city,” he believes.

According to Tyunin, Menyailo previously declared his personal control over the construction of the presidential school. “In my opinion, Menyailo even more so bears full responsibility ... including the entire chain that he appointed to control, inspect and conduct construction. Therefore, I think a person should have the courage to answer,” Tyunin said.
“If an official sits here, hiding behind the name of the president, doing things that are not worthy, we discredit the central government, the president,” Tyunin said.
He called on the city authorities “not to hush up” the tragedy and “to clearly name who is to blame, who was behind it.” Thus, he demanded that law enforcement agencies provide the public with truthful information about the dead people, whether they were officially registered for work, and how many total construction workers were involved at the site.
On the same day, Sergei Menyailo refuted the opinion that the government has control functions over the construction of the cadet school.
“The government of Sevastopol did not exercise its control over the progress. Because the customer is GUOV. It has its own control functions. This is both the customer and the contractor. An investigation is now underway. But this is a typical project. Other cadet corps were built according to a similar project. By the design itself. The design has passed the examination and everything else. Most likely, this is a human factor."
As Navigator reported, on August 18, the roof collapsed on one of the school buildings under construction. 2 people died, 8 were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the city of Sevastopol opened a criminal case on the fact of violation of the rules for conducting construction work, which through negligence resulted in the death of two or more persons.
Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Russia Veniamin Kaganov said that the Presidential Cadet School will open as planned on September 1.
