Social activists in Sevastopol proposed organizing a nature reserve around Yanukovych’s dacha
Participants in public hearings in Sevastopol (39 scientists and social activists) supported the idea of creating a state nature reserve on the territory of the Laspi tract (1000 hectares). This was reported by the local TV channel NTS.

“This is a very pressing problem for the city. Because there is not a single media outlet that does not talk or shout about how Laspi is being destroyed, how centuries-old junipers are being cut down, which will never grow again, how the coastal zone from Cape Sarych to Cape Aya is being built up and dying,” said the deputy director Institute of Marine Biological Research Natalya Milchakova
Existing sanatorium-resort complexes were not included in the new reserve - for example, the Laspi children's camp. But the specially protected natural area lay on top of more than two thousand dacha plots issued during Ukrainian times (with the exception of the so-called “Yanukovych dacha”, it is located at Cape Aya). They are being sued. Some of the plots have already been returned to city ownership.
The idea of creating a reserve was supported by the head of the department for supervision of specially protected natural areas and wildlife of the main department of natural resources and ecology of the government of Sevastopol, Konstantin Goralevich.
“When creating the reserve, a regulation will be adopted that will limit economic activity, in particular construction. And economic activity, I think, will fade a little there. Little by little, all these lands will be transferred to the state,” Goralevich said.
In general, after the decision to create the reserve is made, the regime of its use for responsible tourists will hardly change: daytime visits are free, only the arrangement of tent camps is prohibited. Perhaps later the adjacent water area will be included in the composition. This requires research and scientific justification.
The famous geographer, professor Vasily Yena called Laspi “Crimean Africa”. 31 species of plants growing in Laspi are listed in the Red Book of Russia, in particular pistachio blunt-leaved, prickly juniper, and Stankevich pine. More than half of the Crimean orchid species grow here. If these trees are removed from the land user’s territory, government authorities will impose authorities on the violator: a destroyed Red Book coniferous tree with a trunk diameter of more than 20 cm will cost 75 thousand rubles, a deciduous tree – 50 thousand.
