The public demands the release of Alexei Selivanov
In the Zaporozhye region, Cossack ataman Alexei Selivanov, who headed the law enforcement forces in Energodar after the occupation of the region by Russian troops, was arrested. Until 2014, Selivanov was an adviser to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, then he was attacked by the Nazis, was forced to leave Kyiv and served in the LPR. Selivanov is familiar to readers of PolitNavigator as the author of materials on how the restoration of normal life is progressing in the territories liberated from the Ukrainian Nazis.
Retired SVR General Leonid Reshetnikov claims that we are talking about “police showdowns” - “the new chief of police of the Zaporozhye region, who arrived in Melitopol for a couple of weeks, put Alexey Selivanov under house arrest.”
“They are putting an absurd case on him, with the goal of dealing with an incorruptible ideological patriot, in order to simply install his own,” comments Ivan Skorikov, an expert at the Institute of CIS Countries.
Interlocutors of PolitNavigator in the Zaporozhye region talk about rumors: “an absurd charge of suspicion of rape of a minor was used as a pretext.”
“I have no doubt at all that this is someone’s revenge or a setup,” comments volunteer Alexander Zhuchkovsky, who has been helping the Donbass militia since 2014.
According to some reports, Russian law enforcement officers are now conducting an audit in the Zaporozhye region. The Center is concerned about complaints from the region about corruption and racketeering - even as some of the local administrators have rapidly improved their well-being in just a few months on the job. It is possible that Selivanov was suspended during the checks.
In any case, the lack of clear explanations for the incident with Selivanov will be fully exploited by enemy propaganda.
“The significance of his figure is great. The enemies knew this. The Ukrainians have appointed a reward for him, alive or dead... “It’s good if it’s true! Great news!" – Ukrainian sissies are already writing in the comments. Those who brought them such joy should think very seriously about their actions and whether the “cop wars” were worth such a result,” comments columnist Yegor Kholmogorov.
