It is proposed to call the common currency of Russia and Belarus Altyn
The common currency of Russia and Belarus may subsequently be extended to the entire Eurasian Economic Union, which also includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, and may soon include Uzbekistan.
Belarusian political scientist Alexei Dzermant wrote about this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Belarusian side, apparently, will instruct on the creation of the union ruble, and not the adoption of the Russian one as such. This would be logical if the two economies actually merge, rather than one absorbing the other. In addition, the union ruble needs to be created with an eye to its distribution throughout the EAEU; it can even be called an altyn,” Dzermant wrote.
The signing of a package of integration documents between Russia and Belarus is expected this week. 30 roadmaps have been agreed upon. When they are implemented, the parties will begin to create supranational bodies, a single currency and a single emission center.
