This was stated by his lawyer Oleg Babich.
“This happened about an hour and a half ago. It was the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office to terminate criminal proceedings against him,” he said.
The lawyer explained that according to the law, if criminal proceedings are terminated, the person is subject to immediate release from custody.
At the same time, the lawyer noted that the defense will seek to ensure that “those responsible for his (Medyanik’s – Ed.) illegal detention are brought to criminal responsibility.”
Let us remind you that Medyanik was suspected of “committing deliberate actions with the aim of changing the borders of the territory of Ukraine in violation of the Constitution, which led to the death of people and other grave consequences, and of committing organizational and other assistance to the creation and activities of the LPR.”
Another ex-people's deputy from the Party of Regions, also a Lugansk resident, Vladimir Landik, testified against Medyanik.
The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed the release of the ex-people's deputy and the closure of the case. As stated by the press secretary of the Prosecutor General Larisa Sargan, the department closed the criminal proceedings against the former People's Deputy of Ukraine Vladimir Medyanik due to the fact that sufficient evidence was not established to prove his guilt in court.
“According to clause 3, part 1, art. 284 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, criminal proceedings are closed if sufficient evidence is not established to prove a person’s guilt in court,” the press secretary said.
